Detta är Shebas 7:e CD för Ecko Records i Memphis. Hon har vunnit flera utmärkelser i omröstningar i USA för southern soul/blues-genren under 2000-talet. 22/10 toppar hon American Blues Networks playlist med låten I´ve done all I can från nya CDn.

Hon har en ny, lite mognare, approach till texterna på denna skiva. David Whiteis i Living Blues: ”Not long after the release of her previous Ecko disc, 2008´s I´m a bluesman´s daughter; Sheba Potts-Wright told me that that recording represented a new direction for her. ´I have turned myself around´, she declared. ´There´s certain things I´m gonna say and not gonna say now.´ She´s kept her word. The songs here, for the most part, tackle the usual soul-blues subject matter – love and loss; satisfaction and hunger for it – but the lyrics eschew coarseness. Sheba has left the hoochie-mama hi-jinks to others. - - - …true to her declaration, the bluesman´s daughter has grown up – she´s a lady, in every sence of the word.”

My next column (www.soulexpress.net) will appear only either in late October, but most probably in November - due to these damn travels all the time.

There's a big amount of Southern Soul indies included this time, about twenty, and more is coming in.

I gave Sheba a good review; one of the best SS CDs this year. It'll sit in my top-ten.

Så värst mycket mer hittade jag inte om Mr. Blackmon vid en snabbkoll på nätet. Efter fina recensioner av hans andra CD, Travelin´ home!, 2005, lyckade jag få in 5-6 ex av skivan. Den var kanon med många excellenta soulbluesballader, fint gitarrlir och ett tajt band.

2011 har han nu sin tredje CD ute, som har fått lysande recensioner i Living Blues nr 213 och senaste Blues Revue. Bobby är från Dallas, TX, men bor och är verksam i Orlando, ”central Florida”.

Living Blues: ”Bobby Blackmon claims B.B. King and Wayne Bennett as two of his guitar heroes, and his playing reflects both their sophistication and their fire, even if his lines are a little more stripped-down and his harmonic ideas more elemental than theirs. His band is tight and funkified, and they´ve mastered the too-seldom realized art of kicking up the energy level without blowing out the speakers (or the ears). - - - - Passion, emotional honesty, musicianship, and taste – you can´t do much better than that.”
